GeoCaching Saturday
So as we got up this morning and realized that the trees have all changed colors, some of our plants are dying from the cold… and we still don’t know our way around very well after having been here for 3 months now… We decided it was time to go and do some GeoCaching! Now I have been using a Garmin hand held just like the guys over at GeoTeaming.com told me to when I got started in the game. Now in hindsight - I wish I would have gone a bit more high tech (being that I’m a puter geek an all).
So before we set out to go this morning I realized I needed to plug the ‘ol iPhone in for a charge if we were going to be out of the house for a bit. Then it hit me… I wonder if there’s an app @ the app store for geocaching? 1 Googly woogly later and I’m downloading a $9.99 app (the good ones usually require you to buy them) and I must say at under 10 bucks - turning my phone into a $300 GPS tracking device = BRILLIANT!
Oh yeah… And sorry first gen’ers this won’t work on your iphone… just the new ones! I’m pretty excited to see this thing in action… we’ll still bring the other GPS (since this hunt is in beta) and @mrsneo can run that one… Will be nice to see which gets a better signal and which gets us closer to the prize at the end of the trail!
Happy Caching!

The wife just got a Blackberry Curve - then the GPS app for it. Works as well as our $300 GPSr. Found 7 of 7 last weekend.
You geocache too? Just picked up this hobby in September w/ my twittersphere friends. GEOCACHING IS AWESOME!
@Michelle: Yeah we’ve been Geocaching for a while now
if you check out the tag list on this site you’ll see a few posts on the subject!
David,
Hey, you posted this almost a month ago. My buddy just got an iPhone and was stoked about the app, how did yours do against a bonafide GPSr?
Shoot me an email or reply in the comments.
@Kris Beldin: So far so good - as w/ any GPS when geocaching it just gets you ‘near’ the prize - That being said we took the Garmin out w/ us and ran them side by side - same coords and everything - they were within a few feet of accuracy - the BIG plus side to the iPhone app is the fact that when your looking and want to reference the site for the description or hints it’s one click away - the Garmin can’t do that! So I give it an A++++ for the money you can’t beat it if your a geocacher! Hope that helps
