Facebook Universal Like button – wp plugin

Here it is… As any of you watching yesterdays keynote from Facebook’s F8 conference CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the Universal Like Button – 1 Billion sites served daily! Now that’s a bold statement… but we thought we’d help out. Actually I thought WP plugin guys would have been all over this like a fat chick on a twinkie, they weren’t! So I complained a few times on Twitter… still nothing :| So as with anything else in life – if you want it done right, you’re gonna have to do it yourself!

That being said… I contacted two of my favorite guys in Lancaster, Pa. (the owners of Mind Development & Design Zim & Chad) 3 hours later, as you can see at the top of this post, the Universal Like Button is a wordpress plugin! It’s not been approved by WP yet but we’re running the latest version 2.9.2 (as of the date of this post) and it works like a champ. Just go download the Facebook Universal Like Button <— there upload it to your wp-content ==> plugins folder. Log into your admin panel, go to plugins ==>activate the plugin ===> go to ‘Settings’ (put in your settings, for example I have mine set to top left & show avatars) adjust yours as you wish…. then simply start using it!

I’d also like to say – if you are not currently one of my buddies on Facebook then you probably won’t see the avatars at the top of this post. So you can go and add me http://facebook.com/SEO-101 and please hit the Like button on this post so that we can continue to show / help any of the newb’s that want to use this on their wordpress site!

The next part of Facebook’s “Like” expansion, according to various reports, will be bringing the “Like” button to the rest of the Web. The as-of-yet unconfirmed plans could allow third-party news and blog sites to place Facebook “Like” buttons on their own story pages.

That’s what PC World had to say about it yesterday… it’s like a thing that like lets you like things your friends like and then like you become a valley girl! OH NO! All kidding aside, go use this plugin – now – do not pass go… do not collect $200 – do it! And once you do, if you wouldn’t mind… post a link below in the comment section (THIS TIME ONLY I WILL ALLOW LINKS TO ANYTHING IN THE COMMENT SECTION) ***please read don’t spam me but this is too cool not to see how it’s being used… I will personally approve all links in the comment section using the plugin.

Looking forward,

David Brown / @neoblog

FYI if any of your facebook buddies hit the like button at the top of the post you should also see their avatars at the top of each post they liked… take some time and think about how this is going to throw social a curve…

Keep in mind we’ve done 4 updates to it in the 24 hrs it’s been released…. once WordPress actually picks up our plugin it’ll be an auto update…

I was hoping it would automatically work for the existing blogs on the site – but it seems I have to activate it for each one. Ah well – it’s a brilliant plugin – thanks so much

The reason I have to disagree with your belief that I don’t know what I’m talking about technically is because you’re stuck on the technical aspects of SEO that so many people get trapped in.

I’ve asked this question many many times on various boards with no answers. Please help.

Is it possible to have this “like” button show on all my comments? No pages or posts. If it is, how or where would I put the code to do this?

Please, if more information is needed let me know and I will provide it.

    Thanks.
