Monty Python Link Baiting

Wink, wink - nudge, nudge!

Let’s face it, cute is memorable and it even sales.

What’s the last thing you sent or forwarded to a friend or colleague? Probably not a news story about the latest election coverage, but more likely a funny story, song or picture.

So what do you offer "off the cuff" for your users to enjoy, and more importantly, send to others to bring into your site to check it out?

Maybe you just want to share a rant ?

NeO Blog Moved! 301

Hey all DB here… Just wanted to make a quick note that I moved the NeO Blog to here! Previously I had a blog w/ a few good posts (in my opinion) and some handy video tutorials… I will do my best to migrate those over here as time permits. I stopped blogging over there quite some time ago and figured since I & a gaggle of friends will be blogging over here - we’ll open up the format to whatever (mostly SEO related still) but we’ll pepper in some random fun too!

My SEO Kitteh in trainingSo if you were looking for www.n7v.net and ended up here…. your in the right place! Same ‘ol me but now w/ a blog kitteh - she’s been helping me w/ my cover stories. *If there is something from the old site that you are looking for and cannot find here, please leave me a comment here on the blog and I will do my best to get it back up for you! I also took a look around at all of the other domains that I have that are doing NOTHING… and those too will be 301′d to our main site soon, neo-1.com already 301’s here and there’ll be more to come… (I suppose I should do a write up about redirects or at the very least link to our SEO 101 episode where we discussed 301′ing & redirects.

Is CTR , PageViews and Average Time On Site affecting SERP’s?

Brian Mark is currently in Chicago attending a conference, so David and Cshel where kind enough to ask me to fill in on SEO 101 . We where inspired to talk about the recent speculations on how CTR (click through rate) Page views and Time On Site can be a factor that Google is using to determine search positions. This topic came up because we caught an article on sphinn from Bradley Spencer .

Bradley discusses the possibility of Google using CTR as a factor of their organic listings. He came up with some very interesting points that do make a lot of sense. Google is in the business of quality search results, and to do that, Google has created a plethora of different ranking models to keep enhancing their organic results. Being that we are talking about some of the most powerful search technology in the world, it’s not far fetched to consider that not only can they track click through rates, but bounce rates and average time on site stats as well, and have built into their algorithms a ranking model that uses this information. On the surface, this User Experience ranking model should be a great metric. The simple reasoning is that by monitoring what we click on in the search results, Google can determine if a site is drawing the amount of clicks it thinks that position should hold. The more clicks a site gets, and the more time someone spends on a site, or page views, the more it’s showing that it’s performing at a higher position, so they would increase it’s placement in the SERP’s.

Site seeks LTR with SEO

Lookin for SEO LoveWhile I was out and about cruising the intranets I came across a great post by Rand over at SEOmoz.org! It’s something I’ve wanted to write about for quite some time now and just haven’t gotten around to it. Then I started to type up a comment / response and it became more of a love affair / post than anything… so here goes.

Site seeks Long Term Relationship w/ SEO

What it all boils down to is courtship. Are we attracted to each other? Would we be a good match? What would eharmony.com do if we both signed up, would we be matched? Yes choosing the right SEO can be a lot like choosing the right partner in life. We all know physical attraction is powerful. So do you have a site w/ a product or service I (your prospective SEO) find attractive? I have personally turned down about 50 contracts a year since we started. Some are just ‘Bad Dates’ (I wouldn’t even refer them to other SEO companies because they were looking for BlackHat tactics or they were just generally unsavory business people - Google Assclown awards sometime to find a list of people that earned the nickname!)

Today in SEO…

I thought I’d pop in and make a quick post. SEO 101 had a live show today, where we discussed how to drive more traffic on a shoestring budget! The topic stemmed from a WebProWorld Thread… join in or just wait a day or two and Brian will have it up on the podcast page! We added quite a few extra ways to generate traffic, well more than what was in the thread anyways!

Also I am looking for a company that would like to have their site added to Google Local so that I can make a How To Video for everyone’s benefit! So if you have a company, you are not currently listed in Google Local, and you have a phone number somewhere in the USA or Canada please leave a comment here or email me David AT neo1seo ;) com - Then your company can be highlighted for years to come in one of my instructional videos!

Speaking of which… I got some new software and am having a blast playing with it… so let me ask you all this? What do you want to see in a short instructional video? I’ve done 2 already (but they’re older) How to add an Alias to Gmail & RSS to HTML how to…

Any idea, or subject that you’d like to see, just leave me a comment and be sure to use a real email address just in case I have any questions for ya!
