Or at the very least… it would seem that way after spending some time on MLIA! In an on-going effort to stick to my new years resolutions (blogging being one of those) I decided to do a quick write up on something I’ve found extremely fascinating & oozing awesomesauce. It’s called “MLIA” A.K.A. “My Life Is Average”***WARNING*** This site is extremely addictive! I take no responsibility for wasted hours at work or school! That being said… let’s move right along and get to the ‘fun stuff’.
What is MILA? Glad you asked… straight from the FAQ section -
mylifeisaverage.com is a normal and fairly un-exemplary addition to the web. It’s a collection of everyday anecdotes and stories likely to happen to anyone and everyone, sent to us exclusively by our users, which we then publish on the site. This is a space where you can share the normal and average stuff that happens in your day, and maybe realize that you are not alone in experiencing normal and average stuff. Posts usually start with “Today” and usually end with “MLIA” but no one really cares. This site is meant to be moderately amusing and can be read on a daily basis if you have absolutely nothing better to do.
Sound like any other site that recently blew up? Ahem… Twitter maybe? And I quote “This is a space where you can share the normal and average stuff that happens in your day” Nice thing about this is – THE EDITORIAL process! Think of this like a Digg.com (where users vote and the digg algo decides on which stories should be front page news) Except it’s not articles it’s short comments (much like tweets w/o the 140 char barrier). And the result? Well hours of reading through and laughing at the ordinary conundrums that happen to every day average Joe’s – just like… well… all of us!
Well it’s the New Year… I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! Did you make some awesome New Years Resolutions? I did… and I know if I write them down (or better yet, blog about it) I’ll have someone out there hold me to them! So here goes, in no particular order….
This year I resolve to do a whole buttload more than I did last year! And I’m going to blog about it this time – All of the things that I want (physical and out of life) how I feel (regardless of whether or not I piss people off) About my weight loss (I’m going to drop 40 lbs this year) About my friends / family / win’s / losses / and everything in between.
Stuff I want right now:
nutri system
that ball thing that works the forearm muscles
Lotus Elise (blue w/ 2 white racing stripes)

My Wish List:
More Family Time!(did I mention my kids have blog? it’s called Kid Powered Reviews ) And I’m not only talking about more time w/ my kids… I’d also like to have more time to do the things I keep putting off because of work! All of which (with the exception of golf) include my family.
Hidey Ho tweeps! I know it’s been a long time since I’ve put anything of substance up on the site. So today… something useful, quick, affordable, and oozing awesomesauce! Those of you that know me… know I’m a total analytics freak / geek. So when I start to notice trends I do what I can to appease those fine folks that visit my humble online abode.
With the increase of US based mobile users, (and more importantly all of the fine folks that check my site out from their phone) I started to take a look at a few of my older sites to see how long they took to load on my iPhone…. were they borked? Did they load quickly? There’s nothing more irrating than trying to get a site to load so you can quickly call them when your lost and need directions, oh yeah and in heavy traffic. That being said… all of my sites got a big fat whopping F!
So this morning I set out with the ’simple goal’ of making a mobi version of this site. Tried a few hacks, messed up my .htaccess file… grew more gray hair, pulled some more out… then I stumbled across Crowd Favorite which (if you click the link) you’ll find a plugin called WordPress Mobile Version. Three minutes later my entire site was up and mobile! Fast, browser friendly, stripped down from the web version (with the option to switch over)
Point being… if you take a look at your analytics and notice an increase in mobile users visiting your website, well take the 3 minutes to download > unzip > FTP > activate the plugin and Viola! Anyone visiting your site from a mobile device will get a fast, clean, crisp, Awesomesauce version of your site on their hand held device!
It’s not often that I come across something that is SO Funny / Slap you in the face w/ reality / comedy. (yeah that’s a mouthful) @brianmark sent this to me this morning in chat and I’ve watched it 3 times now! If you are in the SEO industry… chances are you’ve run across the same situation at least a dozen times! So w/o further ado… enjoy this Safe for Work video!
Well my blog friends… I figured it’s about time that I finally updated my blog w/ a quick post to at the very least let you know what I’ve been up to since March (when I posted last – *sorry*) Brian Mark and I have been busy starting a new business – Shade Tree Marketing LLC – While the final paperwork is being finished up I figured I’d give a little background on the name…. A how we arrived @ STM.
Years ago (pre – 9/11) I was in the Timeshare industry selling timeshares! I know, I know, please don’t hold that against me! Anyways one thing I heard time and time again from the folks sitting in front of me was this – “We’d love to vacation more, We’d love to have a timeshare… someday” Well here’s the problem w/ that statement… SOMEDAY never comes…
When your young & first married… you’re working on career’s – trying to find a first home, start a family, etc… etc… etc… and it’s not the right time to start vacationing… Then when your blessed w/ a family… it’s hard to travel w/ babies / small children (and the vacation becomes a much different experience). Then the kids get older, have soccer, baseball, ballet, horse camp, etc… Summers are pretty much booked solid. Then by the time the kids are in college – well you get the point – people can find all kinds of excuses as to why they cannot do the things they wanted to do when they were younger. Others jump in with both feet and make it work.
So back to the name of the new company… Shade Tree Marketing – When I would hear this “Someday we’d love to ________” I would stop them in their excuse making cycle and ask them this one question.
